Sounds of my Average Day (performance piece)

For my performance art piece, I constructed a rhythmic song made from samples of my day. I used Garage Band and my computer to sample a variety or things and string them along to a monologue that I wrote as well.

The performance piece went down as I had planned. My cellphone was the first to start which was my pink panther alarm ring tone. Then it changes to the sounds of a bathroom. (shaver, sink running, shower, brushing teeth) After that, I had a section that was produced just from my car. (doors opening and closing, trunk, car horn, different revving levels) I then had an interlude where my girlfriend call amidst the performance which puts everything on hold. (staged) I answer the pone and briefly have a conversation with her over the speakers. I put this in there because the sound of her voice and the sound of the Brown Eyed Girl ring tone that she put on my phone is a very repetitive sound that i'm guaranteed to hear.

Grid ART

Expo marker on bathroom tile wall. The tiles themselves werent a high enough resolution to make it look like anything so I slip each tile into 4 and went from there. Its also a smurf Mario because there weren't any skin tone expos available. Was more time consuming than I thought it would be. I drew the grid out on paper first and constructed the mario. Then I applied it to the larger scale grid on the wall.

Xerox Project

The assignment was to xerox ourselves (body mostly) and create a collage. My project was exactly that but with an extra feature. I developed the idea of layering these images so that when illuminated from the back, it would create abstract imagery. I did a first layer on the inside of the lamp so that it was the first thing to show through. The second two layers were on the outside of the lamp which in some places darkened the light creating many cool effects. I even took some matt board and found different edges from multiple layers and framed them. I wanted to frame the bottom portion because with the light off, the frame looks out of place. But when the light is turned on, the images fill the frame with different levels of light and imagery.

The top two pics are the lamp without the light on. You can see only the surface images which is what I was going for.

Comments on Classmates Flipbooks

Sierra Ross
-The flower grows into radiant colors was interesting to see. Very visual with the colors.

Anastasia Tsigos
-The flowers dancing around worked, but I feel as though there could have been more to it. Mabe it was that you were getting used to the flipbook movement. If that was the case, then its good for what it is, which is some flowers dancing around.

Taylor Asermely
-Color was pretty intense, and I enjoyed it for it abstract appeal.

Murab
-The sun plus water dripping was was a cool image, and i liked the movement. May have been able to take it a bit further with the conceptual part. Very good overall

Perri Landsberg
-The butterfly was simple yet elegant. Its movement was good and was smooth. Maybe you could have made the butterfly do more, as in, interact with something rather than just fly around. But thats personal opinion.

Ashley Noesem
-I likes the floating objects, but i was kinda left wondering. Maybe if there was a little more to it than just floating abstract object i may have been a little more intrigued. But if viewed in an abstract light, it works.

Adam Bass
-Your was the house the builds then blows up. I liked it because it was simple and i liked the contrast with the whole process of it being built, then in a few frames it explodes.

Mathew Norten
-The walk through the apratment was very cool. Great use of kinkos. very resourceful and its animation was very smooth. Congratz

Coleen Kumka
-The frames were a bit spaced out but the color scheme made up for that. It looked as though had some trouble with what you wanted to do, but it worked out.

Bernadette Miller
-Simplistic but good. Had some trouble with the flipping of the book but even the most simple movement can be captivating. Well done

Victor Valery
-I found that your animation was really good because you went the extra step and made a video out of it and put it to music. Well done. I can see you may have been forced to do this considering your flip book wasn't really a flip book and may have been hard to actually get it to be in motion by just flipping it with your hands. The frames per second could have been a little better but im not complaining because it still flowed and shower fairly accurate motion.
